How is 'ECO-ROOF' different from Metal Shingles
Why WE DOUBLE STRAP OUR ROOFS!
There are plenty of good reasons for installing your new metal roof on double strapping besides the energy savings gained from a 45% reduction in heat transfer in to your attic in Summer!
It's actually the main reason we double strap our steel roofs.... to deal with condensation build-up beneath the metal roof panels whenever maximum dew point is reached!
Asphalt shingles don't have this problem because they have no air space between the shingles, meaning condensation can't form, however all metal shingles and roll form sheet steel roofing is prone to condensation build-up that can cause corrosion on the reverse side of the metal panels.
Condensation beneath metal roofing is typically not a problem in Summer as there is enough heat and air movement to dissipate any condensation that forms, but in Winter this condensation freezes and stays there till Spring.
That's the reason that most metal shingle manufacturers preclude "corrosion that forms on the reverse side of the panels due to condensation or inadequate ventilation". Its also the reason if you prefer the 'shingle look' that you should invest in aluminum shingles- not steel shingles!
ECO ROOF is double strapped to provide an air gap that deals with this condensation. It also creates a thermal barrier to prevent condensation build-up in winter, meaning we don't have to preclude corrosion on the reverse side of our panels from your 50 year warranty. For added protection we coat our metal roofing on both sides so you will never have to worry about your steel roof rusting from the inside. And, if aluminum is your thing, ECO ROOF is available in both GS90 steel and aluminum and both carry the same 50 year manufacturer warranty covering materials and workmanship.

5 Benefits of Double Strapped MEtal Roofing
- Double strapping means weight bearing load of new metal roof and winter snow loads is carried on the trusses- not the roof sheathing deck which tends to be less rigid and sags after multiple shingle replacements.
- - Double strapped metal roofs can be shimmed and leveled up to 4 inches. This is not possible with metal shingles.
- - Double strapping eliminates 1000's of perforations in your roofs sheathing deck and vapor system barrier. ECO ROOF metal panels are mechanically attached to a horizontal strap elevated 3" off the roof deck and dont compromise the roofing membrane or the roof sheathing.
- - Double Strapping deals with roof condensation and ensures steel panels dont rust on the reverse side.
- - Double strapping reduces solar heat gain up to 45% (the heat that transfers in to you attic in Summer) and saves enough energy to pay for the roof from energy savings alone over its warranted life
Single Strapped VS Double STRAPPED ROOFING
1. Single strapped metal roofing provides far less air movement than double strapped roofing.
2. Single horizontally applied wooden straps provide no drainage plane for condensation that forms on the reverse side of the metal panels in summer or winter
3. Single horizontally applied wooden straps trap roof condensation rather than channel it away from the roof.
4. Single horizontally applied wooden straps can rot after years of condensation has accumulated and gets trapped behind single horizontally applied strapping.
5. This usually happens in Winter on roofs that have poorly insulated or ventilated attics. Just like a can of pop or beer "sweats" on a hot summers day, a poorly insulated metal roof "sweats" on the reverse side of the metal panels on a cold winters day when you home is heated above 20C and its minus 20C outside
6. If you are going to invest in roll form steel roofing, insist on double strapping!
