Metal vs Asphalt Shingles
    The Ultimate Protection

    The Benefits of Metal

Discover why more Ottawa homeowners are choosing metal roofing as their final roofing solution. It's not just a roof; it's an engineered system designed to protect your home for a lifetime.

    Lifetime Durability

A metal roof can last 50-70 years, whereas traditional asphalt roofing typically lasts 12-20 years.

    Energy Efficiency

Reflects solar radiant heat, which can reduce cooling costs by 10-25%.

    Environmentally Friendly

Metal roofs are 100% recyclable at the end of their long life and often made from recycled content.

    Fire Resistance

Metal roofs are noncombustible and have a Class A fire rating (the highest rating).

    Weather Resistance

Superior protection against snow, wind, and hail, which is critical for Ottawa winters.

    Curb Appeal

Available in a wide variety of colors, finishes, and profiles to match any architectural style.

    Metal vs Asphalt

When you compare a premium metal roof to traditional asphalt shingles, the long-term value becomes undeniable. While shingles deteriorate year over year, metal provides enduring protection.

    • Lasts 3-4x longer than asphalt shingles
    • Never warps, cracks, or curls in extreme heat
    • Sheds snow easily, preventing ice dam damage
    • Increases home resale value by up to 6%

    Advanced Engineering:
    Continuous Form Panels

We use long continuous form metal panels mechanically fastened to a double strapped spruce roof ventilation sub-assembly. Custom length roll form panels are manufactured to match your roof's exact slope and length.

    Self-Ventilating Design

Installed onto a horizontal spruce strapping system rather than directly to your roof deck. The vapor barrier installed beneath prevents moisture condensation from infiltrating your roof deck and causing rot.

    90% Fewer Joints

Because panels are custom-cut to your roof's length, our system has over 90% fewer joints than interlocking metal shingle systems. This dramatically reduces the chance of water infiltration and leaks.

    Rafter-Supported Weight

Unlike metal shingles that rely on the sheathing deck, our continuous panels are strapped directly to your roof's existing rafters. This provides superior support for heavy snow loads and allows us to shim the roof to ensure it is 100% level, avoiding the sagging common in older roofs.

Why Our Fastener System Won't Leak

    • Tension Release EngineeringOur architectural panels feature built-in relief edges to accommodate daily expansion and contraction without adding torque to fasteners.
    • Double Protection FastenersWe use 'permaseal' 1.5" corrosion-resistant fasteners with an encapsulated neoprene washer, sealed within a metal cup to eliminate UV degradation.
    • Lower Surface TemperaturesThe double-strapped system keeps panel temperatures lower, extending paint life and reducing weathering of concealed washers.
    • AccessibilityExposed fasteners allow individual panels to be removed or replaced easily if damaged by falling debris.

Backed by a 55-year material warranty and a 10-year labour warranty.

    The Secret to Longevity:
    Double Strapped Roofing

There are plenty of good reasons for installing your new metal roof on double strapping besides the energy savings gained from a 45% reduction in heat transfer into your attic in summer. It's actually the main reason we double strap our steel roofs: to deal with condensation build-up.

    The Hidden Enemy: Condensation

Asphalt shingles don't have condensation issues because they have no air space. However, all metal shingles and roll-form sheet steel roofing are prone to condensation build-up that can cause corrosion on the reverse side of the panels.

In winter, when your home is heated and it's freezing outside, a poorly insulated metal roof "sweats" on the reverse side. This condensation freezes and stays there until spring.

    Why we are different:

Most metal shingle manufacturers exclude "corrosion that forms on the reverse side of the panels" from their warranty.

We double coat our panels on both sides. No reverse-side rusting, guaranteed.

    Single Strapped Risks

    • Provides far less air movement than double strapped roofing.
    • No drainage plane for condensation that forms on the reverse side.
    • Traps roof condensation rather than channeling it away.
    • Horizontal straps can rot after years of trapped moisture.

    5 Benefits of Double Strapping

    • Weight bearing loads are carried on rigid trusses, not sagging sheathing.
    • Can be shimmed and leveled up to 4 inches (impossible with metal shingles).
    • Eliminates thousands of perforations in your roof's membrane.
    • Actively channels condensation away, preventing reverse-side rust.
    • Reduces solar heat gain up to 45%, paying for itself in energy savings.
